There’s no shame in admitting that you’re not a Facebook expert. The social media platform is always changing, and it can be tough to keep up with the latest tips and tricks, especially if you’re using your Facebook profile to grow an online business.
However, there are some basic things that you should definitely avoid doing if you want to maintain a positive online presence.

So today I was talking about 10 big mistakes you may be making on your profile
Because here’s the thing…
Even if you’re reading someone’s ad and you’re considering working with them or buying from them, how often do you check out their profile? I do it all the time.
I wanna see if they actually know their stuff.
So I’m gonna check them out right? People are going to your profile all the time.
So by not optimizing it, you’re shooting yourself in the foot.
- Do you want more business or less business?
- Do you want to build your business faster or slower?
So let’s jump in here because this is all within your control.
You want to make sure the message is congruent with what you’re putting out there.
Stop expecting people to be psychic and figure stuff out on their own because they will not, if you haven’t snagged their attention right away, they’re gone.
They’re not going to sit there and use their brain power to figure it out.
You’ve already lost them, clarity is so important. So it boils down to: Who do you serve and how?
Here are 10 big mistakes you’re making on your Facebook profile.
1. Profile Picture
All right, So let’s jump into the first one.
Your profile picture. This is a picture of you, you giving off some good energy, you smiling, this is NOT your dog, your cat, or you and your husband.
This is your business resume. Okay?
Do you ever get a business card from a real estate agent?
And it’s a picture of a flower. No, it’s a picture of them.
Because who are you gonna hire the flower or the actual person?
So it doesn’t have to be a professional picture. It can be a selfie. Just a decent selfie.
Don’t look like a serial killer.
I once had a client whose profile picture made him look like a serial killer.
Not very inviting for people. You want people to go, “oh my gosh, I love this person’s energy.
I’d love to connect with them”. As opposed to, “holy crap am I putting my life in danger?”
2. Cover Photo
So the next one cover photo. This is your opportunity to get people to know like and trust you and the opportunity for you to position yourself and/or generate some leads with your own lead magnet
It could be positioning meaning, you know, if you, let’s just say you have spoken on stage, you could have a picture of you speaking on stage.
But if you haven’t. Do you have to lie and pretend you have spoken on stage?
No, you never have to lie. You never have to exaggerate you just do what you can. Okay.
So, you know, often times my cover photo is just a lifestyle shot.
It’s not selling anything or generating leads or anything like that.
This is not where you put your company name and your products. No, that’s called Spam.
3. Intro
Okay, next one. Your intro. What are you saying about yourself in your intro?
This is where you put who you serve and how.
So whatever you say in there, make sure it’s true.
This is not where you go and lie and pretend you’re you’re doing more than you are, you know, eight-figure income earner, top earner, etc.
If you’re not a coach, you don’t have to say you’re a coach for some reason in this industry, everybody thinks they need to call themselves a coach when they’re not a coach…
How do you know you’re a coach?
When you’re coaching someone for money.
That’s when you’re a coach. (That’s my opinion, I’m sticking to it!)
So you don’t have to pretend you are these things that you’re not because when people realize that you’re not that or you’re not making the seven figures or what have you then you’ve lost people’s trust, it’s about building trust and credibility, not losing it.
Trust is earned. You gotta earn that trust. Right?
So just be honest, there’s no reason to exaggerate or lie.
No reason for it.
Your intro is who you serve and how.
You can even say “network marketer/affiliate marketer helping single moms make money online”.
People go, oh, I’m a single mom. I’d like to make money online. I think I’ll pay attention to you…
4. Clickable Links
Alright, so next one clickable links. I see this all the time.
People will have clickable links just below their intro on the left-hand side that go to other people’s stuff, other people’s pages like entrepreneur magazine, right?
Doesn’t look very professional. It’d be like passing out your business card as a real estate agent and people phone the number and it’s disconnected.
It’s exactly the same thing. Does that look professional?
Do you want to hire that real estate agent who’s got a phone number on their business card that is disconnected?
This is what you’re doing when you’ve got a link on your profile that doesn’t go to your stuff.
Don’t send traffic away from you.
You wanna keep it, that’s why you wanna be providing value on your timeline and all the other different kinds of posts, entertainment, and social proof.
You want people stuck on your timeline. You want people sucked into your world, right?
5. Featured Photos
This is an opportunity for you to select photos that paint you in a good light again.
Doesn’t have to be you with a gold Ferrari and a lot of cash looking like a drug dealer🙅♀️.
This could be you hanging out with your family, this could be you and your garden,
Just position yourself well.
I often see women will do you know all these selfies, it’ll be like 12 selfies with them doing ducky lips and lips and showing a lot of cleavage.
I’m like why would you do that?
This is your resume for your business,
Keep it classy even, you know, it is social media where we get to be more friendly, more casual, a little maybe edgy, that kind of thing.
But it is still your business. You still want to show up somewhat professionally.
6. Spam
The next one is spam. Most of you know what we mean by spam.
Spam is when you talk about your company like your MLM and everybody sees what MLM you’re with and the products, you know, here’s a picture of my oil buy it, that kind of thing.
Nobody should be able to guess what company you’re working with.
If your timeline looks like a catalog, then nobody needs to ask you who you’re partnered with.
Nobody needs to ask you how they can get those products because all the information’s right there.
And if they don’t have to go through you and they can just google it to check it out, then that’s what they’re gonna do because that’s easier.
Don’t make it so easy on them.
You want to be having the conversation and you want people to say, I’m curious what company are you with?
I’m interested in the products you were talking about in your last post. What is that?
Where can I get it? What can it do for me?
Don’t be so concerned about getting the easy sale. The one sale today. You want to have long-term vision.
7. Shared Value
So the next one shared value.
So, you know, somebody understands a little bit about attraction marketing when they have shared value on their timeline.
This is when they saw somebody else’s value and they simply clicked the share button.
So it’s now on their timeline. This is lazy marketer syndrome.
Don’t make a habit of this. You want people to see you and learn from YOU!
8. Not Creating Your OWN Content
Next one is not creating your own value, your own content.
So what you wanna do is be creating your own value, your own content.
This is going to position you better.
Does it take some time to create your own content?
Sure, but it’s worth it because you’re building a long-term business, right?
Do you want people to see you in the right light?
It’s all about influence!!
Creating influence, authority, and credibility…and that happens when you’re providing value that your target audience is interested in.
You have to earn people’s attention.
Am I giving people a reason to follow me? Are they getting something from me? It’s everything.
You can’t get time back.
People are selective. Who’s getting their time right?
9. Not Being Present & Engaging On Your Timeline
The next one is not being present on your timeline. Here’s the thing…
When you’re not showing up on your timeline and not doing what you love to do stuff like that, people think it is a fake profile.
Are you making people think your profile is fake because you’re not showing up?
Do you have to look perfect to post selfies? No.
In fact, it builds a better connection.
If you don’t look perfect, do you have to look like you’re 22 if you’re 60?
If your target audience is other 60-year-old women, why do you want to look 22?
Do you have to look like you have the perfect, you know, supermodel body know who can relate to that?
I once had a gal who was very well-spoken and she was funny as hell and I was like, “you need to do video”, and she’s like, I can’t, I have crooked teeth.
Would you not watch someone’s video because they have crooked teeth?
Who cares if somebody’s judging you…This isn’t somebody you want to connect with anyway.
You be YOU and show up as you!!
It creates connection and relatability.
10. Not Sharing What’s Going On In Your World
Don’t just be about business, give people the opportunity to connect with you as a human being,
So start telling stories. Our brains work this way.
I absolutely guarantee it because you’re human. You can’t help it.
So anyway, I hope I gave you guys some good value there.
These things on your timeline may seem like small details, but they’re not. This is all stuff that’s in your control. Right?
So why not take advantage of these things that you can easily control to give people the right impression?
Building influence with people influences everything.
If you have no influence with people, they’re not going to ever take you up on your offers.
This is the way it is in the real world too. We’re not just talking about online.
Influence is everything!!
Anyway, hope that helps you guys out. Don’t be lazy because these are all things within your control.
The clarity in your messaging is really important.
The right message to the right target audience and then you create the influence with that target audience.
Boom. Your business will blow up!!🎆
