I want to talk about something that is really important if you’re in the home business industry, the topic of leadership.
It’s big, it is big and I remember how the idea of having to lead anyone when I started my business, it scared the heck out of me.
Whether you realize it or not, you have the potential to be a leader. It doesn’t matter if you’re shy or introverted, anyone can be a leader if they set their mind to it.
So alright let’s jump in.
If you’re interested in becoming the leader you would follow, here are a few tips to get you started.
We’re talking about how to quickly become a more effective leader and here’s the truth…
Nobody is born a leader.
So if the idea is the realization that to build your business faster means you have to become a bit of a leader if that scares you, I feel you there.
I remember the day I had that realization, I was still making jewelry and I was standing there in my studio and I went wait a minute if I’m going to be in a network marketing company, then that means I have to recruit and build a team which then means I’m going to have to be a leader and I remember having an anxiety attack at that thought I’m not a leader.
“I’ve never led anyone”
That thought almost allowed me to quit on myself.
I almost allowed myself to quit because I was scared to death of the idea of having to lead anyone because I had never led anyone.
Then I had the realization that I got kids. I’m a leader already.
I’m a parent, And then I thought back and you know, I used to work in a flower shop, I was a floral designer, we’d get somebody new starting, and I would have to show them what to do.
I was leading that person now even though I didn’t have a lot of leadership experience because of like the jobs that I had done, I was always like usually the only employee in most of my jobs,
Where I was working in France where I had these temporary jobs in shitty places like factories and everything. Anyway, my point is I had very little leadership experience but I had some, I promise you you have some most of you on here had more leadership experience than I did when I started my business.
That’s for sure. But that’s okay, that is okay because leadership skills are learned leaders become leaders.
You don’t come out of the womb, this almighty powerful leader, you learn leadership skills over time consistently and you become a better leader every single day.
Moms are great leaders.
They lead their kids.
But it’s true…
If you have relationships, you’re doing some leading.
Here are the main things to get good at to become a more effective leader in a shorter amount of time:
- become a good listener, become an active, deep listener, ask questions and then respond.
Plus when you’re asking people questions, you’re finding out where they really are, where they’re at, you know what headspace they’re in.
So being an active, deep listener and really figuring out what’s going on for someone, upping your empathy skills, and getting really good at being able to put yourself in the shoes of someone else.
- What are they going through?
- What are they feeling like?
- How is what they’re going through, making them feel?
- What concerns might they be having?
You’re better able to have the conversations that are going to be able to help the person and that’s your job as a leader.
Honestly start with listening more, speaking less, and dropping the ego so that you’re not reactive when things come up. Take some time to not let your emotions take over and then deal with the situation and start asking questions.
It’s like getting the other person’s side of the story to write.
You’re almost like being a mediator all the time when you’re a leader.
If there’s something that happens instead of reacting and flipping out like I used to do, ask questions so that you make sure you understand fully.
So let people speak. And I was also taught, yeah, two years in one mouth.
This is another one I’ve really learned about human nature.
This is super helpful when someone’s upset, whether it be your kids, your partner, somebody on your team, or whatever…let them vent.
Let them vent.
So one thing I did touch on this like books, videos, boom, fill your boots, you can study leadership,
There’s this information all over the place, you got john Maxwell, you got Simon Sinek, you’ve got all these amazing leaders who teach leadership.
So you know, start listening to all these things over and over and over.
If you listen to audiobooks, like if you’re driving, pick a topic and study it for a month and when you’re driving, listen to a podcast on it so that it becomes imprinted into your subconscious mind and it becomes part of your thought pattern.
It comes who you are, and you’ll shock yourself suddenly things will come out of your mouth and you’re like wow and then you’ll realize that that is something you kind of heard and learned and it became imprinted into your subconscious mind.
This will change who you are.
The fastest way to reprogram your mind is auto-hypnosis.
That means listening to things, especially when you are in a state of mind just before you fall asleep.
Remember the Rosetta Stone learn a language overnight because you’re listening to this thing as you’re falling asleep in it because it bypasses the conscious mind and becomes directly imprinted into the subconscious mind.
So you can do this with leadership by listening to really, really good leaders teaching about leadership and it’s going to rub off on you, okay?
But make sure you’re working with somebody who’s pretty strong in their leadership skills and just start really paying attention to the way they deal with things, what they do, what they say, all that stuff and it’ll rub off on you.
So those are a few of the things you can do to become a better leader.
Don’t be afraid of leadership because it’s a process to become a leader and you’re not expected to know everything when you first start.
Plus your team and your followers know all that they need to see that you are just a human being, for one thing, and it inspires other people to run, to start building faster.
Don’t expect to come across as perfect at any time.
Can you relate to perfect people?
I don’t think I know any perfect people, but if I did, I wouldn’t be able to relate to them, but I can relate to people who mess up occasionally.
Cool, we have that in common, Be human, be human, be authentic.
Don’t let the thought of leadership hold you back because you’re not expected to be this John Maxwell in your first year, your first five years, your first 10 years.
The guy has been like doing leadership stuff for like 80 freaking years!
Go easy on yourself.
So go have yourself an awesome day.
Step into the shoes of leadership.
Just start, you know, putting yourself in other people’s shoes.
That’s probably the first thing you can do.
And start really listening to people asking questions and then act start with that and then start emulating other leaders that you know, you know, what would so and so do in this position.
I’ve done that many times, you guys, how would this person deal with this situation, I’m gonna deal with it, how I think they would deal with it until that kind of how you deal with situations and such becomes second nature,
It just becomes part of who you are.
So it’s really about reprogramming your brain on how you deal with things.
That’s what I had to do because my first reaction used to be to rip someone’s head off.
It’s not now.
So I’ve retrained and reprogrammed my brain on how to deal with things.
I love you guys have an absolutely amazing day and we will see you soon. Bye guys.
